More About Financial Statement Audit

Frequently Asked Questions About Audit

Aurius’s Financial Statement Audit begins with risk-based planning, continues with the assessment of internal controls and the examination of balances, transactions and disclosures, and ends with the recommendations report and the opinion on the financial statements. The engagement usually includes interim stages throughout the fiscal year and a closing phase after the period ends.

Aurius’s Financial Statement Audit is conducted in accordance with Brazilian and international auditing standards and evaluates statements prepared under BR GAAP and, when applicable, IFRS, including for groups with headquarters abroad.

The main objective of the audit is not to investigate fraud, but it is planned considering the risk of material misstatement, including due to fraud. When indications are identified, Aurius reports them to management and recommends appropriate next steps. For specific investigations, the practice also performs forensic accounting.

A full audit issues a complete opinion on the financial statements. The limited review and the diagnostic, from the Diagnostics and Procedures practice, have a smaller scope and focus on points of attention and the quality of the information, without issuing a full opinion.

Ideally, the audit should begin during the fiscal year itself, with interim stages, rather than concentrating everything after closing. This spreads out the effort, anticipates points of attention and provides more peace of mind at period-end.

At the end, the company receives the independent auditor’s report on the financial statements and a report with recommendations pointing to opportunities for improvement in controls, processes and information.
